Landulph Gardening Club

Landulph Gardening Club was started in 1996 by various people who included professional daffodil growers, Dan and Peter du Plessis, nurseryman Barry Richards and soft fruit grower, Neil Cradick.  There followed many years with a varied programme and a colourful and competitive Spring Flower Show.

Currently we have indoor talks during the colder months and a Christmas meal followed by outdoor visits to interesting and beautiful places.  In May 25 we went by car to two National Garden Scheme gardens.  They were complete opposites: “Fan Cottage” near to the river in Lerryn Village has a cottage garden, wide and narrow with a huge variety of plants - raised vegetable bed, greenhouse, fruit trees, shrubberies and borders, wildlife pond and an interesting display of bonsai.  The weather was warm and sunny, we ate our lunch in the garden.

In the afternoon we drove steeply uphill to “Meanders” at the back of Lostwithiel, a modern timber-framed German design house, with brilliant views over the town and glimpses of the Fowey River.  The owners have planted unusual shrubs and trees practically all originating from far-off countries.  They kindly showed the Club members around their house and gave us tea in the high-tech kitchen.

2026 will include ideas on downsizing a garden, members’ collage input for a tea towel design to commemorate 30 years of the club, local wildflowers and in the Autumn a visit from Jeremy Oatey the head of Agricola Growers who rent Haye Farm, Landulph.

Apart from an interest in gardens and nature, the club is a social place and everyone is welcome, with the first visit free.  The programme is listed in the Landulph Newsletter and also this website.
