I started work as an apprentice hairdresser with Richard Henry of London in Plymouth and qualified after 3 years. In 1964 I met my husband who was then a footballer with Plymouth Argyle and we were married in 1965.

We bought a bungalow in Plympton and after 2 years at Richard Henrys we opened our own salon in Mayflower Street called HAIR CARE. We had a staff of 9 made up of full time stylists and apprentices. Some of our apprentices went on to open their own salons so the legacy carried on and made me very proud. It was a busy salon and some of our customers were shop owners, models and business people. After 13 years we were approached by another hairdresser and sold the business to them.

When my husband finished his career as a footballer he went into property development and letting  and after 12 years in Plympton we sold the bungalow and bought some land and built our own house and sold the other one. The house was featured in the then Homes and Garden magazine and was very modern. We joined St Mellion Golf Club and both played golf and tennis at the club and I won the McMillan Trophy there. We started skiing when my husband finished his football career and spent 20 years skiing around the world.

In the mid 1980's a large plot of land came up for sale in Cargreen, and, now known as Hodders Way, named after the late Doug Hodder, we bought this, built our own house here along with others, and after 34 years are proud to belong to the community here in Cargreen.
